Frequently Asked Questions
Handgun safes are commonly placed under a bed or in a bedside table. Long gun safes are commonly placed in bedroom closets, garages and basements. All gun safes should be locked at all times and only accessible to the gun owner. All gun safes should be out of reach from children, and could be stored on a top shelf in a closet.
Make sure that the door is steel-plated with tamper-proof door bolts, and the body is made using a minimum of 11-gauge steel.
Gun safes do not need to be bolted down. At a minimum a hand gun safe should be attached to an unmovable object through a cable. Larger safes should be bolted down to the floor and the wall.
No. Safes of high quality construction are made with materials that will protect the finishes and operations of firearms. Optimal firearm storage climate conditions range between 50 to 55 percent relative humidity around a temperate 70 degrees. Dehumidifiers can be helpful, but are not needed, and can quickly dry out and damage wooden stocks, so proceed with caution
Fireproof safes can help protect firearms in case of a fire, but it's not a prerequisite for gun storage. The fire rating refers to the maximum amount of time that your gun safe will hold up against extreme heat temperatures. The minimum rating you want a fireproof safe to have is 1500° for 60 minutes. The contents of your safe should be protected for that period as long as the internal temperature doesn’t exceed 350°. It’s more important for a gun to be stored securely than to be stored in a fireproof safe.
It’s important that safes use high quality components. Re-lockers are a good idea, but not mandatory. Look for higher quality products whose components cannot be easily compromised. In terms of locks being tested by UL and other similar rating standards, it’s important to use components that cannot be picked or tampered with.
Typical warranty is one year for the safe, it’s parts and functional operations only. The items inside the safe are not covered and can be insured by an insurance company. Mycube is the one of the only safe companies offering a lifetime warranty on the safes we build for you.
